Arthur Wade ( Butch ) Staton Sept. 14, 1946—May 25, 2022 Butch was born September 14, 1946 in Upperglade, West Virginia to Paul and Martha Staton. He was the fourth of eight children. His parents preceded him in death. Butch is survived by sons Steven and Scott. Wife Mary. Brothers Tom, Ralph and Carl. Sisters Nancy, Mary Lee, Donna and Julie. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Butch grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He went to, and graduated from, Macomber High School. There, he majored in woodshop. He became a very talented carpenter. There are many who have a piece of carpentry in their homes. No doubt, Butch, will come to mind each time they look at it. He was also a very skilled carpet layer. He put together pieces of carpet, to make a design of “ the Seal of the United States of America “. A picture and article of it appeared in the Toledo Blade. After graduating from high school, Butch joined the Marine Corp. He worked his way up to Sargent. He served 2 1/2 years in Vietnam. He was a designated aerial gunner on helicopters. He was presented with a gold star, by the president of the United States of America, in lieu of his 4th Air Medal, for his courage and devotion of duty, in the face of hazardous flying conditions. He loved flying. He was an active member of the American Legion and VFW Posts. He was proud to serve his fellow service men. When passing a fellow marine, Butch would stand tall, give a salute or hand shake, and say, “ Semper Fi “ and sometimes add, “ welcome home soldier “ and thank them for their service. He was a marine thru and thru. In 2001, Butch began the hardest battle of his life, cancer. Through the next 21 years, his battle included non-Hodgins lymphoma, bone, prostate, lung, skin, colon and 5 bouts of throat cancer. Living up to the marine way of service, he gave it all he had. Sadly, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, he lost the battle. Butch will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. May we all find comfort in knowing, he has found peace at last. Arrangements for a celebration of life will be announced at a future date. We love you Butch, forever and always. “ and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more “ Revelation 21:4
