Arthur Nelson

Reverend Arthur William Nelson died with the assurance of the Resurrection January 6, 2026 at the age of 95. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Olaf Arthur Nelson and Hannah Galanaugh Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Deremer Nelson in 2009; his brother, Kenneth Walter Nelson and his wife, Solvig Nelson in 2008; and sister -in-law, Janet Deremer in 2019.

He is survived by his second wife, Janet Schwartz; her children, grandchildren,and greatgrandchildren; Art’s son, Peter Douglas Nelson (Michelle Bartus Nelson); daughter, Lesley Beth Nelson Smith (Mark Smith); four Grandchildren, Kirstin Williams Morrison (Matthew Morrison), Megan Williams Jeppe (Scott Jeppe), Douglas Arthur Nelson (Jessica Nelson), and Jeremy Michael Nelson (Angela Nelson); and thirteen Great Grandchildren.

He was an alumnus of Lafayette College and Princeton Theological Seminary. Reverand Nelson was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. in 1956. The congregations served include The Presbyterian Church at Pluckemin, N.J., The Govans Presbyterian Church Baltimore, MD, The Market St. Presbyterian Church New Wilmington, PA, and Daisytown Presbyterian Church, PA. After retirement interim pastorates included the Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, PA and Thomas Presbyterian Church Eighty-four, PA.

His most recent home has been in Toledo, Ohio. His prior residences include Wakeforest, N.C., Sarasota, FL, Venice, FL, Bethel Park, PA, California, PA, New Wilmington, PA, Baltimore, MD, and Pluckemin, NJ.
