Ann Magnella

June 9, 1927 — April 5, 2023

Ann Kuchma Magnella, age 95 passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023.

Ann was born on June 9, 1927 to Ignatius and Johanna Sorocynski in Montreal, Canada. She was one of five; three sisters, Jean, Ogla, and Vicki, and one brother, Peter. As a young girl, Ann spoke Ukrainian with her family, French at her school, and English with her friends.

She was married to Stephan Kuchma in February 1947. They moved from Montreal to Toledo, Ohio where they began their family. Ann was the loving mother to six children, Steven, Marlene, Katrina, Cynthia, Vicki, and Chris. She filled her life with raising her children, gardening, golfing, bowling, skiing, a ceramic class or two, and even a couple ballet classes.

After the unexpected death of her husband Stephan in 1971, Ann met and married Frank Magnella. She and Frank, along with her youngest daughter, Vicki and Frank’s son Chris, moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1976. Ann and Frank met some wonderful friends in Delaware and enjoyed outings to the nearby casinos. They also discovered they loved the shore where they spent many summers with extended family. After the passing of Frank, Ann returned home to Toledo in 2008 to spend the latter part of her life close to her children and grandchildren.

Ann will be remembered by her beautiful smile, classic elegance, charisma, youthfulness, determination, and always falling asleep in the car.

Ann is survived by her children, Steven (Chris) Kuchma, Marlene (Bob) Candiello, Katrina Nagy, Cynthia LaPlant, and Chris (Annette) Magnella; grandchildren, Kristi, Vedo, Natalie, Jacob, Elliott, Samantha, Matthew, Emily, Nick, and Rocco; great-grandchildren, Zacary, Benjamin, Rocco, Cruz, Mike, Nicholas, Penelope, and Cooper.

She is preceded in death by her husbands; Stephan Kuchma and Frank Magnella, daughter, Vicki (Jerry) Zoepke, and son-in-law, Brian Nagy.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church on April 25 at 11:00 AM.
