Aaron Lee Wizgen

September 12, 1951 — November 6, 2022

Deacon Aaron Lee Wizgen, transitioned from this world at sundown on November 6th 2022. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, relocating to Dayton during his grade school years. In 1969, he returned to Toledo and graduated from DeVilbiss High School. The following year, Aaron enlisted into the Army before being honorably discharged. During his brief service, he received a national defense service metal, was an airborne combat engineer, a squad leader in basic and advanced training schools, and a candidate for honor graduate at jump school. While talking to his daughter one evening he stated that he scored high on a shooting test and was a candidate for special forces sharp shooter. Aaron graduated from The University of Toledo in 1978 with his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. For several years he utilized his degree as an adult probation officer, before becoming an entrepreneur by owning and operating a video store called Video Adventures, Inc. for 7 years. He served as a Toledo police officer from 1990 to 2016. Throughout his life he helped, advised, and counseled many people. His career choices reflected the song, “If I can help somebody as I travel along… no my living shall not be in vain.”

The Lucas County adult probation department played an important role in his future as that is where he met Cynthia Woulard who would become his wife of 44 years. There were two children born to this union, Collin Aaron and Leigh Ashley. Aaron’s central focus was his family always enriching the lives of his children by taking trips to numerous zoos, museums, sporting events, and McDaniel family reunions. He loved traveling to Watonga, Oklahoma where he enjoyed his mother in law’s home cooking and the country life. Aaron was a loving grandfather who doted on his grandchildren every chance he got. It brought him great joy to watch them play baseball, soccer and basketball. He would often radiate a warm smile when family would gather together.

In his free time, he enjoyed body building at Gold’s Gym. A self-proclaimed “gym rat,” he was always sharing his knowledge of fitness with others. He would talk proudly about working out alongside famous pro wrestlers such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Undertaker, and the Road Warriors when they came to Toledo for events.

Did you know… Aaron was affectionately known as “Officer Twice” by his Aunt Rose McDaniel because of his dual service as a deacon and officer of the law… he was a candy lover that would hide stashes around the house… he loved to ride motorcycles, he played guitar and saxophone… he was treasurer for the Jeremy Lincoln Foundation for over 30 years… he adored Pastor and Mother Roberts working tirelessly as a trustee and deacon of the church for over 40 years until his health failed…that according to his “sister”, Deborah Roberts, he was known for singing EVERY verse during Sunday devotion (lol)… that his favorite gospel choir was Mississippi Mass…that in his final hours he had his wife and daughter singing hymns?

Did you know…he was a die-hard Ohio State fan, but would cheer for those Oklahoma Sooners? (Had to keep the wife happy lol) … that he loved to travel with friends, especially near bodies of water, such as Edisto Island, which was his favorite place to vacation with his favorite person, his wife (thank you my friends).

He was a multifaceted person who would give you pieces of himself depending on the role he played in your life. Aaron was a man who touched many lives and will be DEEPLY missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is proceeded in death by, his parents Joseph and Kathleen Wizgen, sister and brother-in-law Bonny and Ren Becker, his mother and father-in-law Velma and Theo Woulard. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Cynthia, his brother Mark (Delonda) Wizgen, his children Collin and Leigh (Tanze) Utley, grandchildren Aion Morton-Wizgen, Marcel (Deuce) Pringle Jr., Mason, and Noah Utley. His nieces and nephews Ed (Yun) Becker, Toni Becker, Donna Becker-Collett, Durant Jones, Melonae Jones, Tameka Rodgers, Beverly Smith, Jasmine Woulard, CJ Woulard, and Karley Woulard. Godchildren JJ and Dawn, as well as an uncle, an aunt, great nieces and nephews, & cousins. There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family: Mother Bernice Roberts & family, The McDaniel family, Jim & Yvonne Johnson, Deborah Roberts, Nathaniel & Patricia Gurley, Jelise & Eric Guynn; loves forever when, we are family.

“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Pslms 73:26
